First Draft of Chains of the Cosmic Warrior: The Action Manifesto Complete

Finished the first draft of the new book Friday 9/7/2018. As I warned, it went long at 630 6x9 pp. With front and back matter it is a total of 650 pp. It seems I have brought it in within the definition of "epic" at 287,000 words.

I have chosen art and ethics over money. Rather that break it into two 300 pp. books I am leaving it as one tome for the time being. I hate the idea of people having to buy one, get to a contrived semi-ending, and then have to buy a second one to complete the story. Shorter, cheaper books sell better... but so be it.

This is now grunt work time. I have found in the past that at least four re-reads for edits are required... and even that is not 100% without a second set of eyes. It should be ready for sale on Amazon by October 15th... hopefully!

Chains of the Cosmic Wanderer: Vol II - The Action Manifesto Status

Well ladies and gentlemen, I have run into a problem. I have 420 pages of the new book in the can but I am no where near wrapping it up. Decision time: split it into two volumes of approximately 300 pages or continue on with the one huge one. I would like to stay under 500 pages in a single volume but it's looking unlikely. I could also go to a larger size paperback format than 6x9 inches to reduce the page count. I could also go back and delete/abridge certain things. Don't want to do either of those.

There are also practical cost and retail pricing issues. A single big tome  or larger physical size will price it out of the market. Whereas, two smaller ones will keep unit pricing  more reasonable but will require the reader to accept a "to be continued" ending for the first one. Reader would then have to order the second one to finish the story. I don't think I know a way to have them sold as a two volume package on Amazon but I need to check that out.

Chains Vol II: The Action Manifesto -- Situation Report

Work is going slower than I would like. Twenty chapters written. That's 270 6x9 pages in the can as of noon today. There are 95 more pages fleshed out in my outline but if history is any indication  that will turn into 150 pages as I complete the re-write. I could split this into two separate 250 page books but will likely just leave it just one more long one. Since it will be in ebook and print on demand formats, there is no real incremental cost doing it that way.

Target publishing date remains August 1st but its probably getting a little squishy (n.b., a GRE vocab word for all you heading to grad school!). I am pretty sure it will be up on Amazon no later than August 15th.
